When your skin is thirsty, it will become dehydrated skin. I mentioned in this blog earlier how dehydrated skin cause sensitive. However, some experience when skin is lack of moisture, dead skin cell produce rapidly to form horny layers, if you found out that your skin turn rough within 2-3 days after scrub/exfoliation, then it is usually a signal of dryness occurrence. Without proper exfoliation, skin will become "thicker" and dry lines appear on skin surface, if no action to be taken, it will further promote to fine lines, and the worst condition is wrinkles.
Skin dry will cause the loss of collagen, however, oily skin will have the risk of collagen loss too. As we grow older, production rate of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid is slower, skin becomes thinner and drier. The effectiveness of collagen decreases, loss of elasticity, thus the fine lines and wrinkles begin appearing on our skin.
What are the factors (intrinsic and extrinsic) cause collagen loss to form fine lines ?
1) free radicals, steal electron from collagen causes breakdown of collagen
- smoking, inflammatory, UV rays, radiation exposure, environmental pollutants, certain drugs and industrial solvents
2) Glycation,a process of sugar bonding to protein(collagen) /lipid without the controlling action of an enzyme, when blood glucose level arise, results in stiffening of the collagen, skin lost its elasticity, look dull and further to cause aging, loose skin, it is irreversible. This concept is still new based on diabetes researches, but make the jump into a commericial skin care venture by Dr Fredric Brandt (celebrity dermatologist and founder of Dr. Brandt) and being discussed.
3) Excessive facial movements, caused fragile collagen tear and fracture easily
- makeup (especially drawing eye line), massage vigorously, push too hard during cleansing especially thinnest part, eye area
In addition, if you always perform facial expressions, for example: laughing (well, you can laugh but not too over), it is time to stop. Repetitive facial movements actually lead to fine lines, from holding your face by hand to resting your face on the pillow also leads to fine lines. Each time we use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin, which is why we see lines form with each facial expression, especially eye area. As skin ages and loses its elasticity, the skin stops springing back to its line-free state, and these grooves become permanently etched on the face as fine lines.
